"Self Defense". The phrase itself may frustrate you. "Christian Self-Defense"... well that is probably just confusing. This is like no other self-defense class you  have ever taken. We don't even like to call it self-defense. Before we tell you what it is, let us tell you what it is NOT.

  • It is NOT martial arts.
  • it is NOT techniques you  have to memorize.
  • It is NOT hours of physical practice.
  • It is NOT a skill you learn over years or even just weeks.
  • It is NOT a Ninja's way of protecting himself
  • It is NOT an admonition to carry a pistol or weapon.
  • it is NOT something you will forget 5 days or 5 years from now.
  • It is NOT... a gimmick. And these are not just fancy words.

You have advantages over your attackers. Learn what they are. As a Christian, you have obligations to protect life. Your own being the most critical.

Well then what IS it?

It is what you should have learned as a child. It is something we as a society stopped talking about and teaching long ago. It is three things;

  1. How to think.
  2. How to plan.
  3. How to take action.

It is as simple as that.

Here is the kicker, though. As Christians, we tend to believe that we are supposed to be non-violent. (And we are). We think we are not supposed to murder. (And we are not.) We think we are supposed to become Martyrs. (And we are if we are called to that.) We think that defending ourselves, or even just learning how to, may in itself be a sin. It is not. In fact, it is a grave duty to protect life, especially your own.

That is a classic definition of a Paradox. In our Christian Faith, we are faced with many such dilemnas.

The problem is that in a life protecting moment, you have only a few seconds to think through your options, make a plan and then carry it out. Most Christians waste those precious moments trying to sort out that paradox in the very moment when they should be taking an action;

Or worse, they let that paradox stop them from listening to the Spirit as it whispers to your heart, "Prepare".

So, let me help you. "Paradox" doesn't mean what most people think it means. Most people believe that a paradox is when two things are put together that directly contradict one another. That is not a paradox, that is actually an "oxymoron" (a fun word to use if you learn to use it correctly, FYI).

A "Paradox", as defined by Webster's Dictionary, definition number one, is, "A statement or proposition that seems self-contradictory or absurd but in reality, expresses a possible truth."

Our faith is filled with Paradox. Contradictory or apparently opposing things that still require one another in order to fully express a Truth.

When you come to our class, you will learn what your Christian faith tells you about your obligations to defend life, your need to prepare and your duty to be watchful.

With that Theological Knowlege in hand, we move on to the skills you need to live out the paradox of "Christian Self-Defense.

Then What?

Once you know what God expects of you, you can learn how he equipped you to accomplish the goal. You will learn about your body, your attacker's body, what is happening in a moment of violence and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the triggers that tell you it is time to take action.

Once you learn what to think about, how to plan and when to take action, you will have a skill you will never forget. You will probably only ever use this skill once. But when you need it, well, you need it badly. These 6 hours will truly make the difference in the most important few seconds of your life, possibly between life and death, or your loved one's lives.

We will not make you a Ninja, we will teach you natural, God given skills and match how you were made with what you are capable of. You have advantages over your attacker, you are not defenseless. When you leave, you will know you can respond to violence and that you CAN defend yourself, your family and if necessary, other Christians.
